The Reality of Meal Plans and Why They Don't Work

I had a blunt conversation with someone yesterday, who really wanted to see weight-loss results, but they didn’t want it enough to LEARN how to make them part of their lifestyle.

They wanted me to write a meal plan for them and tell them exactly what to eat and when to eat.

I know understanding macros, tracking everything you eat in an app, and being consistent with hitting your numbers takes work. But If I wrote you a meal plan and you followed it, you would hate the dieting process, and once you reached your goal weight you would bounce right back to your old eating habits. You’d also most likely develop some kind of unhealthy relationship and/or outlook with food.

The ONLY time I’ve ever seen a meal plan really work was with a high profile client who could afford to have me break the macros down, hire a meal prep company to match the meals to the macros and have every meal consumed cooked and delivered to them.

It did work, I won’t bullshit you. But most of us can’t afford this kind of luxury. And that’s exactly why I practice nutrition as a lifestyle with my clients.

Here are some ideas you can practice today instead of seeking out a meal plan from someone like myself.

  • Education, learn what macros are, how they work in your body and what foods have more macros than others

  • Planning ahead and choosing the right foods you buy at the grocery store, for all your meals throughout the week

  • Allow for some flexibility in your diet

Enjoying the process is so unbelievably underrated inside the nutrition space and ironically it’s one of the biggest keys to staying consistent! When you see people who have been lean all year long, it’s because they work toward their goals on a consistent basis without having to make many sacrifices because they have made nutrition apart of their lifestyle.
