Microdosing with psilocybin has become popular due to the many benefits that have been reported such as an increase in creativity, focus, and a decrease in anxiety and depression.

However, as with any substance, there are some things that should be avoided when microdosing with psilocybin to ensure that the experience is safe and beneficial.

Here I share the top five things to avoid to ensure a positive microdosing experience.

1. Avoid exceeding the recommended dose

When it comes to microdosing with Psilocybin, it's important to stick to the recommended dose. Taking too much can cause unwanted effects such as nausea, anxiety, and even hallucinations. The recommended dose is usually around 0.2-0.5 grams of dried psilocybin mushrooms or up to 1 gram of truffles per day. It's important to start with a lower dose and gradually increase it to find the right amount for your body.

2. Avoid using it as a substitute for professional treatment

Although microdosing with psilocybin can reduce anxiety and depression for some people, it should never replace professional treatment. If you're struggling with mental health issues, it's important to seek the advice of a licensed healthcare professional. Microdosing can be a supplement to professional treatment, but it should never replace it.

3. Avoid taking it daily for extended periods of time

Microdosing with psilocybin is effective because it works by resetting certain neural pathways in the brain. However, taking it daily for extended periods of time can cause the brain to become desensitized to its effects. It's important to take breaks in between doses to ensure that the Psilocybin remains effective.

4. Avoid using it in risky environments

The effects of psilocybin can be unpredictable. It's important to use it in a safe and controlled environment. Set and setting is a key factor in determining how your experience will go.

Avoid using psilocybin when driving, operating heavy machinery, or in any other activity that requires your full attention. It's also important to be in a supportive and low-stress environment for the duration of the experience.

5. Avoid alcohol

The effects of a microdose can be lost with frequent alcohol usage. When you think about it, alcohol is a depressant and psilocybin is more of a “stimulant.” They work in contrast to each other and in my experience while working with folks, alcohol seems to be a drug that does sort of “off-set” the effects of the microdose. Avoid it or limit it when microdosing.

What should I avoid when microdosing with psychedelics?

Microdosing with psilocybin can be a beneficial tool in improving mental health and well-being, but it's important to take measures to ensure that the experience is safe and effective. By avoiding exceeding the recommended dose, not using it as a substitute for professional treatment, not taking it daily for extended periods of time, and not using it in risky environments while avoiding alcohol, you can make the most out of your microdosing experience.
