What’s inside a personal trainers gym bag

Having logged hundreds of hours at the gym, I have learned to rely on a “well stocked” gym bag. From stocking yours with an extra snack, to a change of clothes, my gym bag essentials have helped me boost my energy, and look and feel great while being constantly on the go.

There are certainly preferences I have when making my gym bag checklist, here I share my favorites.

Change of clothes

Having a practical change of clothes is always first on my gym bag checklist. It allows you to seamlessly transition from working out to going out. I have been drawn to bright colors lately after recently purchasing Michi NY's hydra crop legging in yellow. This color literally gives me LIFE. Being a typical New Yorker, black takes up the majority of space in my wardrobe, so I've been making an effort to brighten things up!

Accessories

Throwing on some cool sunglasses or a hat will make you feel great and boost your confidence. Typically when I am done working out, I don’t have time to do a full make-up job, so adding an accessory puts the focus somewhere else. My gym bag also ALWAYS have headphones and my cell phone charger. Being able to listen to tunes or a podcast helps pass the time for me, and keeping my phone alive when I am out all day is a must.

Workout Essentials

When I am running from client to client to show them new workouts to do, it’s crucial that I am stocked with the proper tools. I always have a set of workout bands, I love these, and a small roller of some sort for post workout to help ease tightness and keep lower back pain at bay. Rad Roller has smaller balls you can carry with you everywhere when the body starts to ache that won’t take up a lot of room in your bag.

Food

Having a snack in your gym bag will prevent you from eating something unhealthy on the go. It also will save you a few dollars! A few of my favorite snacks to bag up and bring with me are:

  • ¼ cup almonds + ¼ cup raisins, or other dried fruit
  • 2-3 celery stalks filled with 2 Tbsp nut butter, 1 Tbsp raisins optional
  • ½ cup roasted edamame + ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • 10 whole grain crackers + 2 cheese wedge/round/stick
