My Top 5 overall Protein Powder Picks

There is so much protein options on the market today. It’s a challenge to decide which one fits your needs best. Here I share the best protein shakes, that I cannot live without.

1. Plant based: Vega Protein

Not only is Vega’s protein shakes DELICIOUS, but they are 100% plant based. Each scoop gives you 20 grams of protein, 50% of your daily value of vitamins and minerals, 6 grams of fiber and it’s packed with probiotics, antioxidants vitamins and Omega-3. The best part- there is NO SUGAR added to this protein. I love to mix this protein powder with almond milk, a little sweetener or just water!

2. Whey based: Gold Standard Whey Protein

Whey protein has been my go to protein powder of choice for some time now. I like gold standard whey protein (chocolate) because the main Ingredient is whey protein isolate. Unfortunately when it comes to a lot of protein powders, you are more likely than not to find a lot of fillers in many of these powders so looking at the ingredients list is very important when choosing a non-plant based protein powder. Gold standard has an ultra filtered whey protein concentrate with over 4 grams of glutamine & glutamic acid in each serving, more than 5 grams of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine in one single scoop! I like to mix this powder with almond milk, fruit or water!

3. Bone Broth based: Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth Protein Powder

Ancient nutrition’s Bone Broth protein is my new favorite protein powder! Why? It’s an all-natural, easily digestible protein powder with 20 grams of protein per serving, with a naturally delicious chocolate flavor and little carbs. This protein powder has no added salt, colors, preservatives or artificial ingredients. This is huge when picking a protein powder and when  it comes to the taste, I think this powder takes the cake! Not only is the taste on point, but it’s easy to digest and contains powerful amino acids, type II collagen, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid to support digestive health, and joint health and helps support a healthy immune system.  This powder is great for people who tend to have a difficult time breaking traditional protein powders down and who want to stay away from whey and/or pea or plant based powders.

4. Hemp Based: Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein

This hemp based protein powder may not be ideal for bodybuilders looking to put on massive size in the weight room due to the limited amount of protein in a single scoop, (15g vs. 20-25g) but here’s why I like this hemp based protein powder: it’s derived straight from the hemp plant, offering a substantial amount of fiber (8 grams) that's easy to digest, making it a great pre-workout powder. Hemp also boasts heart-healthy doses of anti-inflammatory omega-3s. The fiber contained in it will help make you feel fuller for a longer period of time. This protein powder is an ideal mix-in for oatmeal, smoothies or even brownies or pancakes.

5. Egg based: GMO Free Egg White Protein Powder

This pure egg white based protein powder is a U.S. based manufacturing and ingredient sourced product and although it doesn’t taste the best, (honestly speaking) the ingredients list is short and there are not a lot of fillers in it. This powder is literally powdered egg whites, which by default are a whole/natural protein source. It’s also non-GMO and has no antibiotics used on the chickens it is derived from. There is no soy and no lactose added. Compared to other powders this one is very reasonably priced as well. I like to sweeten this one up when I throw it into shakes by adding in organic cocoa powder, ice and a banana for a tasty and nutritious post workout shake.
